About
The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority (RTAA) operates and manages the region’s primary commercial airport, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, providing safe, efficient, and reliable air transportation for northern Nevada and the surrounding regions. The RTAA oversees airport operations, infrastructure, and tenant partnerships while supporting economic development, regional connectivity, and a positive passenger experience. The Authority works closely with airlines, businesses, government partners, and the community to maintain high operational standards and advance environmental stewardship, including initiatives that promote sustainability, resource conservation, and responsible airport operations.
Why we're Green
As a commercial service airport, sustainability efforts must be balanced with the safety, reliability, and operational demands of a 24/7 aviation facility. The RTAA has worked to address environmental challenges such as high energy use, water consumption, and waste generation associated with large public facilities and passenger operations. To overcome these challenges, the RTAA has implemented measures including energy-efficient lighting and equipment upgrades, improved recycling and waste diversion programs, improved water conservation efforts, and enforced administrative practices that reduce environmental impacts. These initiatives support more efficient use of resources while maintaining safe and effective airport operations and reflect RTAA’s commitment to continuous environmental improvement.
