About
As stewards of an exceptional mountain environment, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is committed to providing quality outdoor recreation experiences. Our staff and guests realize that Arapahoe Basin is a priceless natural treasure. We strive to continually improve our environmental performance in order to provide enjoyment of Arapahoe Basin for future generations of snow and mountain enthusiasts. We have the power to save the powder! By conserving and limiting our resource use, protecting our spectacular natural surroundings, and working hard to educate our guests and staff alike, A-Basin is finding ways to walk lighter on the planet – even in our ski boots!
Why we're Green
We focus on three main areas of sustainability: responsible energy & greenhouse gas reduction, waste minimization & diversion, and water conservation & quality. Guests have opportunity to offset their personal ski-travel emissions through the CCF and A-Basin’s Snowhuggers Club. Employees can donate pre-tax dollars to land conservation and stewardship from their paychecks and all donations are matched by A-Basin through the Employee Environmental Fund. We have 22 kW of solar installed on-site and our Patrol Headquarters Array (8.5 kW) at 12,456’ is highest ski area renewable energy project in the world, and 2nd highest rooftop solar array in the United States! Employees are required to bus or carpool to work on Saturdays and Sundays, reducing GHGs and road congestion. Last season we composted over 70,000 lbs of food waste. We have on-site water treatment and waste water treatment facilities to keep water efficiency measures in-house and top-of-mind.
